classic 1.2 UCI Race

Event Details

Saturday 27th January 2018
Race starts 1:00PM from The Square, Palmerston North
135km

After two years of successfully running the Gravel and Tar Classic, the organisers have been awarded 1.2 status for the 2018 edition of the race by the world governing body, the UCI (Union Cycliste Internationale).  It is the only UCI 1.2 race on the Oceania Calendar in 2018, and only the second one day race behind the Cadel Evans Great Ocean Road race (UCI 1.1), which is being held in Australia on the same weekend.

This year the Gravel and Tar Classic has been extended in length to 130 km, and with the five gravel sectors making up some 40 km, it will be one of the hardest road racing events in the Oceania region.

The race starts in The Square at Palmerston North at 1pm on Saturday 27th of January.
The race briefing for team managers occurs at the Coachman Hotel at 6 pm on Friday 26th Jan.
Entry is through contacting the Race Director, Steve Stannard: srstannard@gmail.com, +64 226 848 718, +64 218 095 97
