The Gravel and Tar Cycling event is a novel cycling concept designed not only to engage cyclists at all levels, but also showcase the recreational and health benefits of this form of physical activity. Proudly sponsored by Professionals Real Estate, Palmerston North.

The event is headlined by a UCI (Union Cycliste Internationale) accredited race, the 135km Gravel and Tar ‘Classic’ for elite and professional cyclists.

The ‘Classic’ has been run with outstanding success for the last five years.  This year the organisers, the Greasy Chain Charitable Trust, will be welcoming international, national and local professional teams in the Professionals Gravel and Tar UCI 1.2. As a UCI-sanctioned event, the “Classic” now sits in the International Cycling Calendar, one of only eight races in the Oceania region.  Other such races on the Calendar include the Tour Down Under, the Sun Herald ‘Sun’ Tour, and the NZ Cycle Classic.
