In 2019, for the first time there was a women’s Gravel and Tar cycling race to accompany the men’s event.

Like the men’s ‘Classic’ event the La Femme comprised five gravel sectors making up approximately 40km and another 76 km on the tarmac.

The 2019 Gravel and Tar La Femme race video can be found here.

The race started at Feilding's Manchester Square and finished at Memorial Park in Palmerston North. The course map can be found here.

The prize purse was equal to the men’s Classic, the total being in excess of NZ$15K, including over NZ$9K for general (individual) classification and NZ$6K for teams classification.

The women’s event was unique, not just because the prize purse is equal to the men’s race, but because it was one of the hardest women’s race on the UCI road cycling calendar.
